The United States Merchant Marine Academy

The United States Merchant Marine Academy is a four-year, coeducational, federal service academy situated in Kings Point, New York. It is the one institution authorized to bring a struggle standard as aspect of its color guard because the academy’s midshipmen have served in each main struggle the country has been involved in since World War II. It was founded in 1943 and presently has about 1,000 undergraduate students. It was the first of all the service academies to admit women, beginning in 1974.
Students at the Academy are called Midshipmen. They are qualified in marine engineering, navigation, ship’s administration, maritime law, personnel management, international law, customs, and many other disciplines significant to the assignment of running a big ship.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy takes part in Division III athletics, and the school talisman is the Mariner. In June 2006, George W. Bush became the first sitting president to present a start speech at the academy.
